Get Into Volunteering Everyone!

The purpose of the G.I.V.E. program is to encourage volunteerism at HMDCS. Each family is asked to volunteer a certain amount of hours during the school year. This volunteering can be done by helping in many ways: serving on a committee, being a classroom volunteer, going on class trips, helping in the office, or helping with hot dog day just to name a few! Grandparents are encouraged to volunteer their time and can help a family accumulate their hours.

In June, when parents send in their tuition cheques for the upcoming year, a volunteer assessment cheque for $500 post dated for May 31 of the following year needs to be included. This cheque is returned if the required amount of hours have been completed.

The program runs from June 1 to May 31 of the following year. Parents can choose volunteer positions that are posted under "Current G.I.V.E. Opportunities" and/or listed in the School Matters. Each family is responsible to fulfill their required volunteer hours and submit them to the G.I.V.E. coordinators.

The G.I.V.E. hour requirements are:

  • Family with a full-time student(s) at HMDCS - 20 hours
  • Single-parent family with full-time student(s) at HMDCS - 10 hours
  • Family with a student only in JK OR SK - 10 hours

Questions can be directed to our G.I.V.E. coordinators: Linda Blydorp or Heather (Kevin) Biersteker.
