On the Wednesday of the week prior to the first day of school, all families are invited to a get-acquainted social, which is, weather permitting, held in the school yard. It runs from 6-7 pm. Organized by the Community Relations Committee, everyone is encouraged to chat and mingle with those in attendance, especially welcoming families new to HMDCS.

Following the social, parents and their child(ren) are invited to participate in the Opening Night ceremonies in the gym from 7-7:30 pm. Then from 7:30-8 pm students and parents have an opportunity to see their classroom environment; the teachers to welcome students and meet parents.
