After School Detentions

There will be a central “Grade 6, 7 and 8 discipline binder” kept in the office for all rotation teachers to record students’ infractions. These infractions are things that go against what each student signed on his/her Behaviour Contract at the beginning of the year. They include everything from having three unfinished assignments (which individual teachers will track) to interrupting the teaching/learning process and showing disrespect to people, property and those in authority. After the third recorded infraction, the student will receive an after school detention. Two subsequent checks will result in another after school detention. Detentions will take place on the next Tuesday or Thursday from 3:20 – 4:15 p.m., the date closest to when the third infraction is recorded. Please note: A student who is sent to the office will follow the “office steps” rather than the “check system”. As much as possible, these systems will work together. Parents are responsible for transportation home should a student choose this path.

Office Steps

Three after school detentions will constitute a "step" at the office. These "steps" are separate and in addition to detention checks. Three steps at the office mean suspension at the administration's discretion (in school, out of school, length of time, etc.).

Grace

At the beginning of a new term the tracking of infractions (discipline checks) will begin again on a clean page, however, accumulation of after school detentions will continue throughout the year.  Three after- school detentions will result in a step in the office regardless of when the detention occurs in the school year. We want to model to the students the concepts of justice and grace, recognizing that God offers us grace time and again even though we have to bear the consequences of our mistakes. The office steps and after-school detentions served will continue to accumulate all year and will not start clean each term.

Please Note:

Students in grades 6-8 are informed of these procedures during the first week of school. Should parents need clarification feel free to contact the administration.
